It is our great honour to welcome you to Porto for the 27^th Edition of the Porto Cancer Meeting. This international meeting has been organized since 1990 by Ipatimup and is now anchored on i3S – Institute for Research and Innovation in Health, the largest health research institute in Portugal. This year, the scientific program of the 27^th Porto Cancer Meeting will focus on Stemness & Metastasis: Advances in Research and Clinical Translation, focusing on the role that cancer stem cells play in initiation, progression, and resistance to cancer treatment.

Stemness & Metastasis is a major and burning topic in oncology and is of particular relevance when framed on the assumption that tumour cell heterogeneity and plasticity are major barriers to efficient and persistent clinical treatment. Noteworthy, new therapeutic strategies, directed at tumour stem cells and their heterogeneity and plasticity, are having increased application and impact on clinical cancer practice.

As one of the most prominent cancer research events in Portugal aiming to be at the forefront of cancer research, the objective of the 27^th edition of the Porto Cancer Meeting is to provide a great environment for discussing and recapitulate the latest advances in our understanding of cancer stem cell biology and the clinical translation of targeting cancer stem cells.

Once more, the Porto Cancer Meeting is bringing together the perspectives from several key players in the field ranging from researchers and pathologists to clinicians. Through its characteristic multidisciplinarity and informal atmosphere, the meeting will create a great environment for discussing the latest developments on topics such as Cancer Cell Heterogeneity and Plasticity, Stemness and Tumor Microenvironment, Invasion, Systemic Dissemination and Metastasis, Cancer Stemness – Translation to the Clinics.

The meeting will include keynote lectures from invited speakers, selected oral communications and poster display.
